Your Competitive Advantage
What is “Sustainability?”
While the notion of Sustainability started with the whole concept of being green, paying more attention to conserving our planet’s resources, but it is really much more than that. Sustainability is a business strategy that creates long-term stakeholder value by increasing productivity and/or reducing consumed resources without compromising profitability, competiveness, or quality of the deliverable, be it a product or a service. It takes into account economic considerations, governmental issues, as well as strongly voiced opinions from customers and stakeholders.
Another way to say it is - People + Process + Environment = Profit
Why is Sustainability such a hot topic?
“In the last year or two, everything has changed. People are starting to suspect that sustainability is really a strategic issue that will shape the future of business. The specifics are different depending upon industry and context, but we’re in the beginning of a historic wake-up.” – Peter Senge, MIT Sloan School of Management and founding chair, MIT Society for Organizational Learning
